The beautiful Holsteinische Schweiz

The Holsteinische Schweiz is the biggest natural park in Schleswig-Holstein. Its gently rolling landscape of woods and lakes lies embedded between the regional capital Kiel and the hanseatic city Lübeck. In 2006, the year of the natural parks, the Holsteinische Schweiz became 20 years of age.

The surroundings

The region of the Holsteinische Schweiz lies in the eastern part of the federal state Schleswig-Holstein. It is situated mostly in the counties Ostholstein and Plön, approximately between the cities Lübeck and Kiel and goes to the coast of the Baltic Sea. Bigger cities are Bad Malente Gremsmühlen, Lütjenburg, Oldenburg in Holstein, Preetz and the old residence cities Eutin and Plön.

In the region of the Holsteinische Schweiz there are more than 200 lakes, one of the longest rivers of the federal state, the Schwentine, and the highest peak of the region, the 168m high Bungsberg.
